Get Stronger with HIIT from your own Living Room

HIIT workouts are currently some of the most popular forms of exercise. What is HIIT and why are so many people falling in love with it? HIIT stands for high-intensity interval training. Most HIIT workouts are 30 minutes or less making them quick and convenient. The other benefit of HIIT workouts are that they can be done right from your own living room. No need to spend hundreds of dollars a month on a fancy gym membership. To complete a HIIT workout all you need is your Gymboss timer and a place to work out.

How to Start

It is quite simple to start a HIIT workout routine. First, you need to find which HIIT workout to do. The internet is a great resource for this. A quick Google search will instantly provide you with hundreds of HIIT workouts to do at home. Pressed for time? Try a quick 4 minute HIIT workout that can easily be done after work, in between errands, or while dinner is in the oven. Pick 2 exercises to do, body-weight exercises are great for HIIT workouts, such as mountain climbers, planks, squats, burpees, etc. Set your Gymboss timer to two interval times, one for 20 seconds and one for 10 seconds. Set the rounds box to 8 repeats. Each exercise will be done for 20 seconds with 10 seconds of rest in between (This is called a Tabata routine). The Gymboss timer will tell you when to work and when to rest with an audible alarm or vibration. If you can, repeat the whole process either one or maximum of two more times.

If you have a bigger chunk of time, pick a longer HIIT workout. Set the Gymboss interval timer to 30 seconds of intense exercise with 30 seconds of rest in between and set the rounds box to 10-15. A good exercise to try with this one would be high knees. The best part? These workouts can be completed anywhere from a hotel room on a business trip, to the living room while the kids are napping.

Benefits

HIIT workouts have many benefits. First, the workouts allow you to burn calories for hours afterwards. The quick bursts of intense intervals allow for the body to burn more calories than with a traditional aerobic workout. Another benefit is that the stress put on the muscles leads to increased muscle definition and volume. HIIT workouts are good for the overall health of the body. They are known to reduce blood pressure, heart rate, and blood sugar. The benefits are endless.

Summary

Due to the quick nature of HIIT workouts, this is an exercise routine that people are more likely to stick to. Don’t worry about belonging to a gym or having to carve out 2 hours a day to workout. With HIIT training, workouts are short and easy to do from the comfort of your own home. All you need is a Gymboss HIIT timer to take the first step toward implementing HIIT training into your workout regimen.
